High School Youth Group (9th-12th grades):
The four years spent in high school are some of the most formative during a person’s life. If you add the pressures that today’s high school students face, the prospect of making it through those years without serious hurt and pain can be daunting. It is the purpose, and our prayer for our high school youth ministry, that students would find Light of the World’s youth group a place where they are safe from the constant negativity and pain that exists in their world. It is a place where youth can find friends who have the same beliefs and morals as them, and find adults who care about them, and are always ready to listen to what’s going on in their lives. We meet every Wednesday night from 7-8:30pm for games, a place to get help with homework, and a Bible study or talk that helps students see God’s love and plan for them.

High School Mission Trip (9th-12th grades):
A group of our high school students give one week each summer serving communities, and learning to become God’s hands and feet. In the past we have gone places such as to an American Indian reservation in Oklahoma, Juarez, Mexico, and New Orleans, to help with the clean up from Hurricane Katrina. This year’s trip will be to the Appalachian Mountains, and the dates are June 22nd-28th.

Middle School Youth Group (6th-8th grades):
Middle school is a tough place – the time between playing on playgrounds in elementary school and learning to be independent in high school can be trying for both parents and youth! Mix in popularity, hard classes, sports, and friendships, and it can be overwhelming. Our middle school youth group is somewhere that youth can play games, get messy, and learn about their identity in Christ all at the same time.

Confirmation (6th-8th grades):
This is a 3 year educational program designed to help our middle school students learn the basics of the Old and New Testament, as well as what we believe as Lutherans. The primary goal of the entire program is to help them establish a personal relationship with Christ that will last throughout their lives. It meets Wednesday nights during the school year from 7-8pm.

Puppet Ministry (6th-8th grades):
Our middle school youth have developed an amazing ministry for the younger children of Light of the World through puppetry. The puppets come visit church worship services, our Fall Festival, and children’s ministry programs throughout the school year. Each of our puppets has a name and a life story, and kids at LOTW become fast friends with them, and parents have been known to plan coming to events just to see them! Middle school students learn the basics of puppetry, including puppet songs and skits during rehearsals on a few Sunday afternoons each month.
